LCCI decries raids on businesses in name of anti-dengue operations

September 19, 2022

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said all segments of society will have to play their role to eliminate dengue and that the government should avoid raids or other action against business premises in the name of anti-dengue operations. LCCI President Mian Nauman Kabir said the government should direct all the district administrators to ensure anti-dengue spray in all areas. He urged the government to take immediate measures to control dengue spread which is becoming a big threat for the citizens. He said the local administrators should avoid raids or fines on business premises as it’s nothing else but a source of panic. “Raising awareness on dengue virus is a must instead of focusing on challans and raids which create panic among the public,” he said. He said concerted efforts were required to eliminate this deadly virus.

Kabir said the country faced a massive challenge of Covid-19 and was now struggling to cope with the calamity of floods and was not in a position to face another challenge of dengue. He said the Punjab government should take all necessary measures to avoid dengue outbreak. LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Rehman Aziz Chan said awareness should be raised for adopting preventive measures against dengue at the local level. LCCI Vice President Haris Ateeq said an effective campaign against dengue should be ensured and instructions should be issued to the departments and institutions concerned for protection from possible outbreak of dengue.

Kabir said the district administrations all over the province including Lahore should be put on alert and directed to ensure that the water should not accumulate in low-lying areas and arrangements be made for its immediate drainage. He said the Lahore Chamber was ready to play its due role in not only raising awareness about dengue virus but also making contributions to this social cause. The LCCI president said re-eruption of this virus was being witnessed. The deadly affects should be reduced by adopting the right strategy, he said and called for equipping the members of civil society with measures to deal with the problem beforehand.

“We must use all means of communication to launch an anti-dengue campaign,” he said. The LCCI office-bearers said it’s not the responsibility of the government alone to do everything. Every department, company and home should come forward for controlling the outbreak of dengue virus, they said.
