KP govt promises skill development of domestic workers

Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Industries and Commerce Abdul Karim Khan says domestic workers, especially women, will be imparted training to promote their businesses. Speaking to a delegation of the Handicraft Association at the Board of Investment and Trade (BoIT), he said the provincial government was taking urgent steps for the promotion of the handicraft sector of the province. BoIT Vice Chairman Said Mahmood, Project Director Munir Gul, and representatives of Smeda, Tourism, TDAP, Bank of Khyber and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KP-EZDMC) also attended the meeting.

The special assistant said the handicraft sector of the province had huge potential to earn foreign exchange for the country. According to Maryyam, the chairwoman of the KP Handicraft Association, the group has been active for 15 years and has trained more than 1,000 women in various crafts. Expos were also planned to promote and advertise their goods, she said, adding that the organisation secured equipment and other tools for rural women through contributors. Abdul Karim Khan exhorted the group to launch their enterprises and promised them his support. He gave the relevant authorities the go-ahead to address their issues with their capacity for and barriers to marketing their items.
