IT services sector grows by 25.45% in FY2021-22

ISLAMABAD, Jul 20: Pakistan’s Information Technology (IT) services sector grew by 25.45% in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2021-22, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Pakistan earned $2.38 billion by providing different IT services during the said period, as compared to $1.897 billion earned through provision of services during the corresponding period of fiscal year 2020-21, the PBS reported.

During July-May (2021-22), the export of information technology services increased by 42.36% as they went up from $3.470 million to $4.940 million. Among the information services, the exports of news agency services increased by 72.02%, from $ 1.880 million to $3.234 million. The export of other information services increased by 7.30%, from $1.590 million to $1.706 million.

The export of computer services grew by 27.76% as it surged from $1.495 billion last fiscal year to $1.91 billion this year. Among the computer services, the exports of software consultancy services witnessed an increase of 43.42%, from $498.917 million to $715.539 million, while the exports of hardware consultancy services rose by 363.64% from $0.528 million to $2.448 million.

The export and import of computer software related services grew by 37.72%, from $369.826 million to $509.320 million. The export of repair and maintenance services surged to $1.435 million from $0.502 million. In addition, the export of other computer services increased by 8.99%, going up from $625.897 million to $625.897 million.

The export of telecommunication services witnessed an increase of 16.63% as it went up from US$398.680 million to $464.990 million during the year under review, according to the PBS data. Among the telecommunication services, the export of call centre services increased by 44.3% during the said period as exports increased from $136.603 million to $197.118 million. The export of other telecommunication services increased by 2.21%, from $262.077 million to $267.872 million during the period under review, the PBS data revealed.
