Important mega- projects in Gwadar to be completed by 2022

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 6 (INP):  Gwadar has multiple mega projects underway under China-Pakistan  out of which several are expected to be completed in 2022.

According to Gwadar Pro, some of the mega projects to be finished this year include Pakistan- China friendship hospital consisting of 300 beds. The work on hospital is expected to be finished by December this year.

The second project is Gwadar East bay expressway which will connect Gwadar Port to Makran coastal highway. The six-lane expressway will be completed by April 2022.

The third important project is provision of water to Gwadar city from nearby dams to meet the future water demand of the city. For this purpose, the lying of pipelines from Swad Dam to Gwadar is already completed.
The 67 km long pipeline will provide 5 million gallons of water per day.

The repair work of water pipelines inside Gwadar city is also expected to be completed this year. 90% work on the Ankara Kaur Dam is also completed which will provide 2.7 million gallons of water per day.

Most of the work on Shadi dam is also completed and it will soon start providing around 2.5 million gallons of water per day to the port city.
Altogether these three dams will provide around 10 million gallons of water every day.

According to the 6th Session of the Joint Working Group on Gwadar co-chaired by Secretary Planning Development & Special Initiatives Abdul Aziz Uqaili and Ying Xiong, Director General of the National Development & Reforms Commission of China, Government of Pakistan is actively implementing various projects, in close collaboration with the Provincial Government to ensure provision of all the necessary facilities in Gwadar.

The projects include linking Gwadar to the national electricity grid; provision of water to Gwadar city from nearby dams; establishment of University of Gwadar and Gwadar Safe City project and certain other projects in the socio-economic domain.

The meeting noted that the project called Gwadar Free Zone Phase-1 had been successfully completed, while work on the bigger Phase-II, covering an area of 2,221 acres, has started.

With investments made by Chinese and Pakistani investors Gwadar is emerging as a top-notch real estate investment hub. All of the planned and ongoing infrastructural projects in Gwadar Port and Free Zone are expected to be completed by 2025.
