ICCI to launch radio, TV channels to boost investment

November 17, 2022

President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari has announced that the chamber will launch its own radio and television channels to promote business and investment in Pakistan. The chamber’s radio and TV channels will also promote those who have created wealth through hard work and honesty as role models in society, he said while talking to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Director General Finance Shamim Gul Durrani.

In order to emphasise the significance of wealth creators for the country, he added, the ICCI wants to begin work on a special programme in which Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb will be invited, together with representatives of print and electronic media. Ahsan Bakhtawari said the country's electronic media should promote understanding of commerce, business, investment, and the economy to foster entrepreneurship rather than drawing attention to bad news.

Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority’s Director General Finance Shamim Gul Durrani said that PEMRA is prepared to work with the ICCI to build radio and TV stations. He emphasised that the print and electronic media should play a role in showcasing business and investment prospects in Pakistan in order to attract investors. He stated that the country's successful future is tied to a robust economy.

He praised the ICCI's proposal to create a unique technology park and said that Pakistan has a wonderful opportunity to increase IT exports by concentrating on the growth of this industry. The young would have access to more occupations as a result, he added. He stated that the current act does not contain a provision allowing for ICCI participation in the Council of Complaints of PEMRA. The parliament must change the act to do so, he added.
