Under a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Huawei Technologies Pakistan, the tech corporation is training thousands of students every year in Pakistan.
During the launching ceremony for the National ICT (information and communication technology) Whitepaper in Islamabad held by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, Wang Shunli, Vice President of Huawei Middle East, said that Huawei trained thousands of talented youths of Pakistan in recent years. Huawei wants an IT conducive environment in the country. Talent development is key for the sustainability of Digital Pakistan with programs like Huawei ICT Academy. Huawei Seeds is an initiative aimed to develop skilled, local ICT talent.
“Every year, more than 10,000 students participate in the competition from around the country. Pakistan’s team won the first place in the final of Huawei ICT Competition 2021 held in Middle East. They also won the first prize in the global finals competing with teams from all across the globe,” Wang said.
He said Huawei was inspired by the efforts put forward by the trained team, and especially by star student, Bhagchand from Sindh. To honor his achievements, Huawei has made a microfilm on him, so that others may be inspired by his story.
“He (Bhagchand) is a true testament to how far hard work and commitment can take you,” Wang added.
The federal minister, secretary and other officials from the Ministry of IT and Telecom appreciated the story of Bhagchand, and the subtlety with which it was captured on film.
The microfilm will soon be available for viewing on Huawei Pakistan’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
The Huawei vice president also took the opportunity to talk about significant progress made by ICT, which has played a key role in revolutionizing the world, making it truly a global village, and how innovation in ICT results in commercial, economic, cultural, and social opportunities for users of cyberspace.
“I would like to appreciate and highlight the IT Ministry’s efforts in enhancing connectivity which is one of the fundamental pillars of digitalization in any country. Cellular subscribers have now reached 195 million with 88% population penetration, which is commendable. Over the past five years, 4G users have grown exponentially from just five million users to more than 80 million. The ministry’s efforts will help in enhancing the fiber penetration rate in Pakistan,” he said.
Wang said the National Whitepaper is part of a series of concrete steps taken by the ministry for making the country sound and strong on digital front including e-government, e-learning, e-health and other schemes that are designed to boost the adoption of ICT based applications within the public sector.
