Govt to empower women by providing career opportunities: minister

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Manpower Sajid Hussain Turi has said the government is empowering women by providing them with greater career prospects both domestically and overseas. He was speaking at a tool kits and certificate awarding ceremony for female participants of the "Programme Migration for Development," a collaborative project of GIZ-Support for Technical Vocational Education and Training TVET Sector of Pakistan, KP-TEVTA GIZ- global, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. According to the minister, in order to give jobless people access to better and more lucrative work prospects, it is vital to train them to meet local and global market demands.

He said that the ministry is implementing a number of initiatives to give as many people as possible the chance to develop their skills, which has shown good results. The development of the talents of young people and women from tribal regions is being given special attention, he said, as real initiatives are being taken to recruit competent Pakistanis overseas. According to Turi, tribal areas are far behind in terms of development, and tribal women have enormous potential that has to be realised in order to give them greater options for work so they can support their families. Sajid Hussain Turi praised the German government for its assistance and advised the graduates to make the best use of their abilities for the socioeconomic advancement of the area.

He emphasised the comparable demand-driven skill-building initiatives with an emphasis on women's engagement for the province's underprivileged youth. He said that the ministry is completing contracts for the supply of skilled labour with Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan, and many other countries. Later, the minister presented certificates to 55 Kurram district women who had successfully completed courses in cooking and dressmaking. To encourage them to pursue self-employment, the trainees received vocational training with a respectable amount of working capital, toolkits, and entrepreneurship sessions.
