ISLAMABAD Aug 22, (INP-WealthPK ): The government has prepared a roadmap to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth for the socio-economic development of the country, WealthPK reports.

“Our economic vision is to shape a bright future for Pakistan by improving efficiency, enhancing productivity, increasing investments and creating wealth by unleashing the entrepreneurial energies of the private sector,” said a report of the Finance Ministry, highlighting 75 years of economic progress.

It said that Pakistan made significant headway in spite of many challenges. It added that the country was transformed into a semi-industrial economy and hub for business activities. It added that structural changes were introduced by focusing on the increase of exports instead of import substitution.

The report said that the government was trying to increase the growth of Gross Domestic Product to six to seven percent in the medium term and sustain the growth rates over the medium and long term without putting pressure on the balance of payments.

“If we want to make this great state of Pakistan happy and prosperous, we should wholly and solely concentrate on the wellbeing of the people, especially the poor,” the report said quoting Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The report added that the government was trying to reduce poverty by ensuring higher and inclusive growth and strengthening the social safety nets.

It said that another area of focus was the development of tourism and information technology, improving investment climate and attracting domestic and foreign investments through effective implementation of investment promotion strategy.

The report said that the government was establishing special economic zones (SEZs) and focusing on export promotion, import substitution and employment generation. It said that youth would be made the strength of the nation through various skill development programmes.

It said that short, medium and long term economic programmes were underway in all sectors of the economy including agriculture, industry and services to achieve these goals. “The aspiration is to put the economy on a higher growth trajectory through higher investments, efficiency and enhanced productivity,” said the report.

It said that measures were being taken to establish and strengthen the economy. It added that the economy would be made self-reliant and capable of competing with competitors around the globe.

“These measures will enable people to play their respective roles, provide equal opportunities for all and assign the government very specific roles as a facilitator, regulator and performance-driven service provider,” said the report, available with WealthPK.
