December 08, 2022

Punjab government will give Fort Qasim and its adjoining areas in district Multan the status of a tourist destination to boost the tourism industry of the province. The decision was taken in principle by the district administration and the officials of Walled City. It was decided in the meeting that Fort Qasim will be renovated and restored to its original shape so that tourists from Pakistan and abroad can visit the historic site.

Restoration work will also be carried out on the shrines of the region to promote religious tourism. During the meeting, Commissioner Multan, Ishfaq Chaudhary said that the provincial government will take every step to revive tourism in the province. He said that the city has a 5000-year history which needs to be highlighted through the restoration of religious and heritage sites. He added that the shrines of Sufi saints hold a special place in the hearts of Muslims.

People from around the globe visit them every year, adding that these areas of spiritual peace need to be restored to their full splendour so that people can learn about the architecture of the old city. Chaudhary stressed the role of Archeology Department in the protection of buildings and places of worship. He instructed the officers of PHA, Archeology, Auqaf and Sports to maintain a working relationship with the officials of Walled City Project as joint efforts would help improve the tourist sites in the city.
