ISLAMABAD, July 27: The new trend of acquiring modern design innovation has attained the highest priority in the industrial sector to capture the global markets by strictly adhering to the international standards of products, said Chairman of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Engineer Dr. Shahid Munir.
He made the remarks while talking to a corporate sector delegation led by engineer Almas Hyder, former president of Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in Lahore on Wednesday.
Dr Shahid said 'Spel Technology Support' design innovation through information technology-based autodesk software had gained great importance in the industry worldwide to meet the emerging challenges of global markets. He said it exclusively focused on addressing the people’s needs with what’s technologically feasible and devising a viable business strategy to derive value from the market opportunity.
He said the PHEC’s mission was to empower the creative minds of students and educators with design innovation so that they were able to take on complex challenges of today and future. In the prevailing circumstances, he said, no nation could progress in any sphere of life without equipping itself with the rapidly developing information technology.
"The main benefit of design for manufacturing is particularly to cut cost of a product during mass production, reduce mistakes by operators, and diminish time to produce by removing useless extra activities," he said.
Design is one of the most crucial aspects of product development which influence buyers and strengthen innovation, he added.
Dr. Shahid thanked Almas Hyder for the assistance in getting “Autodesk software” for the University of Home Economics (UHE) which will help impart latest knowledge to the students and train the on-job professional executives through evening programs. He said faculty and students had direct free access to the world’s best Autodesk software.
Almas Hyder said, 'Spel Technology Support' had inked MOU exclusively for educational purposes with VC UHE Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen and handed it the US-built Autodesk software.
The software includes latest 10 design tools like AutoCAD, which are being used worldwide to develop the latest designing in architecture, engineering, construction, media, entertainment, design and manufacturing sectors.
He expressed his commitment to the academia and industry to continue to support the educational institutions in Pakistan. He said the goal of Atuodesk software was to design a product that could be easily and economically manufactured, as 70pc of the cost of a product was determined by the design decisions.
