Delayed shipments bring losses to Pakistan: META

January 05, 2023

Manufacturers and exporters have expressed their concern over the cancellation of international orders due to delayed shipments and urged the government to improve logistics and gas and power supply to the industries across the country so that the shipments can reach the international markets in time. This concern was expressed by a four-member delegation of Manufacturers, Exporters & Trader Alliance (META) during a meeting with the Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) chairman.

The delegation members expressed concern over the hindrances in increasing the export volume. They said Pakistan was braving a power and gas shortage that was causing the cancellation of orders due to delayed shipments. They urged the government to also improve logistics across the country so that the shipments would reach in time.

They also requested that the government improve the supply of electricity and gas on a priority basis. The PIAF chairman said the only solution to the economic problems of Pakistan lay in increasing exports and the government should also take into confidence all the stakeholders. He said the dynamics of the world economics had changed after the Covid-19 and ‘’we must change as per recent times’’.

‘’After the Covid-19, the online business has seen over 10-time increase. Looking after this scenario, Pakistan should have its own warehouses in different regions of the world so that buyers would be able to shop online easily.’’ The PIAF chairman and Ch. Zulfiqar agreed upon drafting workable suggestions and presenting them to the government and have a proper follow-up on that.

The PIAF chairman further said there was a huge demand for textile products in the world. ‘’Pakistan has seen a decline in exports whereas Bangladesh has seen a rapid increase. Their exports are touching the $50 billion mark. We have to review our polices,’’ said the PIAF chairman.Mian Shafqat Ali (former president LCCI), Engineer Sohail Lashari (former president LCCI), Mian Nauman Kabir (former president LCCI), Chaudhry Haroon Shafique (Senior Vice Chairman PIAF) and Raja Adeel (Vice Chairman PIAF) were also present.
