Pakistan’s agriculture extension department has organized a wheat yield competition to motivate farmers to adopt innovative ways of increasing the crop yield. The department has invited applications from wheat growers in this regard. The last date for the submission of applications is January 31, 2023.

The main objective of the competition is to increase the per acre yield of wheat and assess which method works well in increasing the yield. Deputy Director Khalid Mahmood informed that all those farmers who had cultivated wheat on five acres of land or more were eligible to participate in the competition.

He said that the winner of the competition will get a cash prize of PKR 300,000, followed by PKR 200,000 for the one coming in second position and PKR 100,000 for the farmer who stands third. He informed that the application forms were available at the local offices of agriculture extension departments. He advised the farmers to root out weeds from fields and ensure pest scouting besides applying nitrogen, phosphorus, potash and zinc fertilizers.
