Chinese companies to invest in solar, water, infrastructure projects in Pakistan

Chinese companies have expressed their interest in investing in Pakistan’s sectors of clean energy, water and infrastructure. They expressed their intention during a meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif who is on a trip to China, according to a PM Office press release received by WealthPK

Shahbaz Sharif during his meeting with the Chinese investors invited them to come and invest in Pakistan’s 10,000-MW solar power project. He also invited them to invest in other clean sources of energy like wind and turbine power plants.

He laid stress on the importance of timely completion of the Gwadar International Airport so that businessmen and investors can fly directly into the port city. The Chinese business heads assured him that work on the airport will be completed early next year.

He informed the businessmen that a revolving fund of PKR 50 billion has been constituted by the State Bank of Pakistan on the directions of Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar. He pledged to solve issues of the businessmen related to the payment of imported coal.

He assured the businessmen that land acquisition for Diamer Basha and Mohamand Dam will be sped up so that work can be started on the construction of proper dams.

He said he understood the importance of security for the Chinese personnel working in Pakistan and that the government of Pakistan has taken across-the-board steps to make sure that innocent lives are not lost to terrorist activities. He told them that a whole brigade of Pakistan Armed Forces is deployed for the security of Chinese personnel working on certain projects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He said, “collaboration is needed between Chinese companies, the government of Sindh and the federal government to solve issues of water shortage and mismanagement in Karachi. Collaborative efforts and joint ventures will further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and China.”

He thanked the Chinese companies for taking special interest in Pakistan’s development projects particularly the Gwadar Port and Main Line-1 railway track. He also expressed gratitude over the generous support extended by China in the wake of massive flash floods in Pakistan.
