Capacity building workshop focuses on FATF regulations

December 08, 2022

A capacity-building workshop co-organized by Blue Veins and Hari Welfare Association focused on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) regulations, which affect non-profit organisations' ability to accept domestic and international financing. The workshop participants discussed how anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing regulations have an impact on civil society, the necessary partnerships and measures to protect public spaces, the mutual evaluation of FATF processes, and ways that civil society can meaningfully engage at the provincial and national levels to increase civic participation.

The FATF is an intergovernmental body that develops policies and coordinates efforts to combat money laundering and terrorism funding globally. Speaking at the event, Hari Welfare Association President Akram Khaskheli emphasised the importance of civil society groups' independence since they act as outside observers for the advancement of the rule of law and the enforcement of public accountability. He asked the NGOs to grasp the importance of this fundamental idea and set up communication lines with the appropriate people.
