Baluchistan offers huge opportunities for FDI in Pakistan

December 07, 2022

Baluchistan offers many opportunities and a conducive environment for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country. The statement was made by the former Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Balochistan, Naseebullah Khan Bazai. He said, “during the 2010 floods in the province, provincial authorities worked almost 18 hours every day to provide relief to 0.7 million affected people.

The same spirit for public service is needed today if the plight of flood-affectees is to be remedied.” He added, “provincial government and district administrations need to perform their jobs as honestly as possible to ease the suffering of common folk.” He continued by saying that Baluchistan boasts rich deposits of minerals and fossil fuels. He said it is very important to bring these deposits in the notice of foreign companies so that they can come and invest here.

Moreover, he said, there are also huge opportunities for investments in livestock, fisheries and dry fruit. Bazai also highlighted the lack of industrial hubs in the province, adding that due to the absence of a thriving private sector, people are forced to find jobs in the public sector. The former secretary further said that the first right on the resources of Baluchistan was that of its people in accordance with Article-158 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

He said, “residents of many districts do not access to electricity and natural gas, which is very worrying.” He stressed the importance of leadership, merit and honesty in running public affairs, adding that no calamity, whether man-made or natural, can not be fought with determination, honesty and best-practices.
