Avenfield reference: NAB allowed to record statements of two witnesses on Avenfield reference through video links

February 02, 2018

ISLAMABAD, Feb 2 (INP): The accountability court on Friday accepted National Accountability Bureau’s application to allow two witnesses to record their statements on Avenfield reference through video link. Two witnesses from the prosecution, namely Robert W Radley and Akhtar Raja, have to record their statements in the case. However, they are both currently residing in the United Kingdom and can’t come to Pakistan due to security reasons. The country’s top graft-buster had requested the court to record statements via video link. Last week, while admitting the supplementary reference for hearing, the accountability court announced that charges against the Sharifs would remain the same and the court would decide about the objections raised over supplementary reference at the time of the final judgment. A NAB prosecutor later explained that the accountability court would determine charges regarding false documents presented by the accused persons during the investigation at the time of final judgment and after considering the evidence produced before the court. He also requested the court to grant permission for summoning five other witnesses on the next date of hearing. Pervaiz raised objection saying the court has to first decide if the witnesses can be summoned or not after hearing arguments on the application. INP/AH
