AIIB to help Pakistan develop infrastructure

Chief Economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Erik Berglöf has assured the Pakistani Government of his support for infrastructure development in the county.The assurance came during a meeting between Erik Berglöf and Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Islamabad.

The AIIB chief economist appreciated the economic policies and reforms of the government for social uplift of the people and highlighted the bank’s role in infrastructure development projects and investment in Pakistan. He also discussed future cooperation for the development projects, especially those related to climate resilience. The finance minister expressed gratitude to Erik Erik Berglöf for his support to Pakistan.

According to official data released by the AIIB, the bank has initiated a number of development projects in Pakistan including Pakistan Balakot Hydropower Development project, Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa  (KP) Intermediate Cities Improvement project, Tabela5 Hydropower Extension project (T5HEP) (co-financed by the World Bank), Pakistan National Motorway M4 (Shorkot-Khanewal section project), Pakistan Karachi Water And Sewerage Services project, and Pakistan Resilient Institutions For Sustainable Economy (RISE) project besides a $500 million agreement at the COP27 to support the building of climate resilience.
