Active efforts needed to promote business ties with Greece: President

President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi has directed the newly appointed ambassador to Greece to promote business ties between the two countries. He said that the two countries were not fully utilizing their trade potential and that it was important that active steps were taken to promote bilateral trade. In a meeting with the Ambassador-designate to the Hellenic Republic (Greece) Muhammad Aamir Aftab Qureshi, the President said that in addition to promoting bilateral trade, the Ambassador should work to identify new areas of cooperation.

The President said that close cooperation on the level of chambers of commerce was needed between the two countries, adding that bilateral trade between the two countries was a mere USD 101 million in the year 2021. Arif Alvi told the Ambassador to study Greece’s tourism practices as the country was one of the top tourist destinations in the world and said that it is important to apply the best practices in Pakistan. He said that it is the responsibility of Pakistani embassy in Greece to project a positive image of Pakistan as an ideal tourist destination.

The President also said that it is important to remain in contact with the Pakistani community in Greece to resolve their issues if there are any. He told the Ambassador to liaise with the National Database Regulatory Authority and Passport Office in Pakistan to resolve the visa and passport issues of Pakistani community residing in Greece. He continued by saying that Pakistan and the European Union’s Dialogue on Migration and Mobility was expected to open new avenues of legal migration from Pakistan to the EU countries.  The President also expressed his desire that Greek companies should be taken on-board to hire the skilled youth of Pakistan for their online digital services.
