Action plan ready to implement Climate Change Policy in KP

The Forest and Environment Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has prepared an action plan to implement Climate Change Policy 2022, aimed at saving various sectors from the climate change.

According to the 50-page plan, available with WealthPK, all the provincial departments and institutions would be given a two to twenty years period to manage the impact of climate change, deal with natural disasters, and restrict its effects on different sectors.

The proposed action plan includes upgradation of principles for planning designs of the towns, minimizing the emission of green biogases, use of latest technology and effective methods for irrigation.

It incorporates promotion and generation of hydro power production in the province, and raising awareness among people regarding imminent consequences of natural calamities in the wake of climate change.

The plan also gives recommendations for capacity building of the Forest Department and other relevant institutions to restrict cutting of forest trees, and enhance forest carbon production under a modern strategy.

The plan will formulate a risk management system to save crops from extreme weather conditions such as floods and droughts, and provide access to the best fodder and food for animals. Moreover, steps will be taken to fill the knowledge gap regarding effects of climate change on the province’s forests.

The plan also includes recommendations for assessment of health hazards as a result of climate change and implementation of a uniform health policy, regular access to clean drinking water, access to green and affordable electricity and economical persuasion and provision of subsidies for upgradation of industrial sector and technology to minimize emission of green gases.
