November 16, 2022

Around 30% of the building work for the water desalination plant, which would daily provide 1.2 million gallons of clean drinking water to the citizens of Gwadar city, has been completed, Water Desalination Plant Project Director Dawood Baloch said.He expressed his satisfaction at how quickly and smoothly the project's work progressed. According to Dawood Baloch, under the direction of the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) and the government, extensive soil testing on the grounds of the Gwadar Port Free Zone Area proceeded without interruption.Dawood stated that the GPA has made progress in constructing the water desalination plant as well as a water supply line of roughly 1 km from the plant site to the primary water supply network of Gwadar city.

As a result, the citizens of Gwadar will receive clean drinking water at their faucets. He said that the GPA has already begun the official hiring procedure for qualified enterprises for this purpose. He noted that the chosen company would be given the contract in accordance with the laws and regulations following the completion of the tendering process on November 16. According to a GPA official, the water desalination facility, which occupies an area of roughly one acre, is scheduled to be finished in 12 months, but given the current rate of construction, it may be finished by April 2023.

He said that the GPA and China Harbour Engineering Company are working together to finish the water desalination project. He continued, "this facility will be enough to handle the water requirements of Gwadar metropolis and Gwadar Port." The governments of Pakistan and China first agreed on a proposal for a water desalination plant with a capacity of 0.5 million gallon per day after conducting a feasibility study. On July 5, 2021, the government authorised a water desalination facility with a capacity of 1.2 million gallon per day for Gwadar, he added.
