100-year-old male patient recovers from COVID-19 in India's Mumbai

MUMBAI, July 16 (Xinhua) - A 100-year-old man recovered from COVID-19 and has been discharged from a civic-run hospital in India's Mumbai.

The centenarian, who thanked the hospital staff for the service and get discharged on Tuesday night, was admitted to the hospital on July 1 over complications arising from the virus, said a civic official from the healthcare department.

As the retired school teacher was wheeled out of the hospital, he was greeted with a cake by the hospital staff amid a song and clap.

Last month, 103-year-old Sukha Singh Chhabra of adjoining Thane city on the outskirts of Mumbai became the oldest man in India to recover from the virus so far.

India's financial capital, the worst affected city in the country, has been the hot-spot for COVID-19 with 5,405 deaths so far.

With the caseload of 95,100 infections, Mumbai is expected to reach the 100,000 grim mark by later this week-end.

India has 319,840 active cases of COVID-19 with 24,309 death reported so far.
